‘Lampard’s got nothing to lose’ – Pundit makes bold Chelsea Premier League prediction
Frank Lampard will lead Chelsea to a Champions League spot next season, according to television presenter Michael Kurn.
Kurn believes that despite the loss of Eden Hazard, Chelsea’s ability to pick up points under new manager Lampard will not be tamed – leaving a top-four finish within their reach next year despite not having the opportunity to buy players this summer.
Given particular praise was the style of football that has been seen in pre-season, during which the Blues have overcome the likes of Barcelona and hit five past Salzburg, as Lampard gets to grips with his side ahead of the new campaign.
Speaking on TalkSPORT, Kurn said: “That is a big loss, losing Eden Hazard. But I’ve spoken to a few Chelsea fans who are incredibly excited with the way that Frank Lampard’s got them playing football. And I think they’ll pick up results; I think they’ll play exciting football, and I can just see them [reaching the] top four.
“I think Lampard’s got nothing to lose this season, it’s not like he’s got to be cautious. I’m saying now – Chelsea fourth.”
Kurn may have a point in that Lampard’s first season could be something of a free hit, with the new boss unable to put his own stamp on the team in terms of personnel whilst under the restraints of a transfer ban.
Therefore, holding Lampard responsible may be fairly harsh if Chelsea do not achieve their aims come the end of the season, especially after losing such an influential talent as Hazard, who led both goals and assists totals last season at Stamford Bridge.
So it may be something of a risk-free strategy for Lampard to experiment this season – even if it means surrendering any kind of domestic progress – though where any such approach will lead for Chelsea remains to be seen.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
