Sheffield Wednesday have certainly managed to turn things around under Steve Bruce! Their play-off hopes may have all-but-ended recently, however, it is a far cry from what they were experiencing before he took over the helm at Hillsborough in January.
The Owls have managed to go on an exceptional run of form during his short tenure at the club, as he has only suffered two defeats in his 15 Championship fixtures. In those matches, Bruce has seen his side pick up six victories and seven draws, including their one against Norwich City on Good Friday.
Fernando Forestieri opened the scoring for the visitors to bring the two sides level in the first half with a sensational long-distance effort that Tim Krul could not get anywhere near. And, it was not just the fans that were ecstatic with the effort, as Danny Higginbotham was waxing lyrical about the strike.
Whilst on co-commentary on Sky Sports, he said: “What a strike! You think he has lost it there, but then he just finds the time and space and you’re thinking ‘surely he won’t, surely he won’t’. He has and what a strike that is! We talk about him finding spaces and finding time and space, but that has nothing to do with it. You can’t pick the bones out of it. It’s not poor defending. Just admire it! What a finish that is from Forestieri and that is what he is capable of, and that is what Sheffield Wednesday have missed so much this season!”
And, you would have to agree with Higginbotham’s comments regarding the forward and his contribution.
The Argentine-Italian has been key for Sheffield Wednesday over the last few seasons and has regularly contributed with goals, however, this year’s campaign has been a little frustrating for him and those in the stands at Hillsborough.
Injuries and suspension have blighted his chances this year and have seen him make just 22 Championship appearances, where he has managed to bag himself five goals.
If he were to have been able to play a little more this season, who knows where the Owls could be in the league and what the end of the campaign may have held for them.
Sheffield Wednesday fans, do you agree with Higginbotham’s comments? Do you feel the club have missed Forestieri so much this season? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
