‘He should be the one Liverpool are looking at’ – Jamie Carragher tips 22 y/o for Anfield move
Jamie Carragher believes that Liverpool should make a move for Leicester City’s James Maddison.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, the former Liverpool defender talked up the ability of Maddison, and suggested the 22-year-old was good enough to take Liverpool to the next level.
Maddison was an integral part of Leicester’s attack during their 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea, with the midfielder, who was deployed as a winger in Sunday’s match, setting up the Foxes’ equaliser with Wilfred Ndidi heading home his corner.
Carragher has pinpointed Maddison as a potential future target for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, and thinks that the Leicester attacking midfielder would fit the bill at Anfield.
He said (via Metro): “I think he is the one player outside of the top six who Liverpool should be looking at.”
“People have been talking about [Philippe] Coutinho coming back, but obviously that hasn’t happened as he’s gone to Bayern Munich.
“But if you are looking in the Premier League, yes he will cost a lot of money, but he should be the one Liverpool are looking at if you’re going to that next step up.”
Carragher’s liking towards Maddison is not that surprising given the player’s rapid rise in recent years.
Maddison shone in his debut Premier League season after signing for Leicester from Norwich in July 2018, with the youngster scoring and assisting seven goals – more than any Liverpool midfielder in either department last year.
He also created 100 chances last season in the Premier League – more than anyone else in the division.
And by starting this season off in a similar vein by getting off the mark on the assists front, Maddison could yet be well on his way towards another impressive campaign before the likes of Liverpool even have the chance to hunt down his signature.Like what the TT have on offer?
