‘They might make a steal’ – Pundit eyes late transfer activity at Liverpool
TalkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino believes Liverpool could be in for some late transfer dealings as the deadline edges closer – with the Reds making minimal changes to their playing squad this summer so far.
However, Cascarino thinks Liverpool could get their act together in the coming days ahead of their opening Premier League game against Norwich next week.
He said (via The Daily Mirror): “As much as Liverpool are very, very quiet, I still think they will make a signing or maybe two.
“I don’t think they will go through this whole window with not really bringing in any players. Okay, they have some exciting youngsters coming through like [Rhian] Brewster, who Jurgen Klopp said could play games this season, but Liverpool will get through it because their squad is getting better and bigger.
“Where they are now, they are competing for really good footballers. They might make a steal on someone.”
It may be a surprise that Liverpool have spent minimally this summer, having spent almost £164m in the previous year.
Unless this summer is seeing a balancing of the books, there are areas within the Liverpool squad that could potentially need addressing – albeit without ample time in which to get deals through.
As it stands, the Reds currently only have one recognised left-back in Andrew Robertson, while the same could be said for Sadio Mane at left-wing.
And even if there was any temptation from Klopp to not tinker with his squad that delivered the Champions League, the opportunity to upgrade on existing stars such as Adam Lallana – who only made six starts last season – could pass them by as the deadline nears.
