Liverpool: Raheem Sterling could get into Reds attack, says TalkSPORT’s Sam Matterface

‘I’d get him in the team’ – TalkSPORT pundit would fit City player into Liverpool’s front three

TalkSPORT presenter Sam Matterface believes Raheem Sterling would warrant a place in Liverpool’s attack – and claims the England winger has the potential to become one of the best players in the world.

Sterling has been in scintillating form so far this season, blitzing West Ham United on the opening day of the Premier League campaign with a hat-trick, and only trails teammate Sergio Aguero in the competition’s scoring charts.

His 25-goal haul from the previous campaign has seen an upturn in performances as the 24-year-old continues to shine under the tuition of Pep Guardiola at City – and is well on his way to usurping his previous goalscoring best in his fourth season with the Spaniard.

Finding something of a home on the left-wing, the conversation on TalkSPORT turned to whether he could feature within Liverpool’s front three, who led the Reds to European glory last season.

Matterface was undecided on which player Sterling would replace, but was adamant he would have to be included, saying on TalkSPORT: “I would rotate the three of them, but I’d stick him in for [Sadio] Mane. Do you know what, I might even stick him in for [Mohamed] Salah. I can’t make my mind up, but I tell you what I can make my mind up on – I’d get him in the team.

“Because I think he’s that good, and I think he’s developed into an absolutely top-level player – and I do believe that he has got the opportunity to become one of the best players in the world.”

There seems little doubt that Sterling produces on the level that Liverpool’s attack would require to function – with Sterling’s goal return last season just one behind Mane’s 26, while his assists total of 18 is equal to the efforts of Salah and Mane combined.

So it looks as if Liverpool would not miss much if they had the City man in the team – if only you could imagine Sterling ever turning out in red at Anfield…
