Former footballer John Hartson believes Manchester United’s Daniel James can have an impact for club and country following his promising start to life in the English top flight.
James has enjoyed a positive beginning to his Manchester United career, with three goals in his opening four games for the club, making him the team’s top scorer at this early stage of the season.
Speaking to Football FanCast, Hartson claims that his start to the season may leave United pretty pleased with their deal to nab James from the Championship side for such a miserly sum, with the former Celtic and Wales striker suggesting James will already be worth much more.
He said: “There are some really good players in that Wales midfield, with the likes of Harry Wilson, Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey, Tom Lawrence, David Brooks and Dan James in particular, who not only could have a massive impact for his country, but Manchester United, too.
“United must be thinking ‘oh my god, I can’t believe we got this boy for £15m’. What’s he worth now?”
According to Transfermarkt, James’ value has already doubled since his move to Old Trafford, with his current market price of £22.5m comfortably greater than the £10.8m value at the point of his switch to the red half of Manchester.
And given only Marcus Rashford has been able to step up on James’ level in front of goal (by netting his second penalty of the season against Leicester City this weekend), United may be grateful for the 21-year-old’s instant impact so far this season.
Anthony Martial is the only other player to find the net for United so far this year, so should James continue to perform at his current level, his worth to Manchester United may rise further yet.
