Everton supporters have been pretty downbeat in recent times after seeing their side suffer a second successive Premier League defeat at the weekend.
Marco Silva’s men went into their encounter with in-form Arsenal off the back of going down 3-1 at home to West Ham in their previous league meeting, in turn suffering their first loss since Silva was appointed as manager during the summer. And the Toffees were unable to bounce back in North London on Sunday as goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sealed a 2-0 win for Unai Emery’s side, thus insitigating Everton’s fall to 12th place in the Premier League table.
As such, there have been many disappointed Evertonians up and down the country in recent times, although they are likely to be intrigued by recent comments from The Daily Mirror columnist Stan Collymore, who says that Chelsea must seek to offload Alvaro Morata.
And the ex-Liverpool ace is absolutely right that the Blues should get rid of the Spain international, and Everton are one side who must be ready to pounce if Collymore’s verdict does indeed come true.
Ultimately, despite making a great start to life at Chelsea last season, netting six goals in his first six Premier League games for the Blues, 25-year-old Morata has since found the going very tough indeed in West London, scoring only twice in the league in 2018.
And with just one goal so far this term for Maurizio Sarri’s side, to the point that he has started their last two league games on the bench, the future doesn’t look particularly good for the former Real Madrid striker, with it seeming that he is not the answer in Chelsea’s quest to replace Diego Costa.
And Collymore is absolutely right to suggest that the West Londoners need to ditch Morata in favour of a ’30-plus goals a season’ man, and were they to do just that, Silva’s Everton must seek to keep him in the Premier League by luring him to the blue half of Merseyside.
Yes, things have been tough for the Spaniard in recent times, but one mustn’t forget that he bagged 15 times in all competitions for the Blues last season, 11 of which coming in 31 Premier League games to help Antonio Conte’s men to a fifth place finish.
And while that may not be good enough for Chelsea, Everton would bite someone’s arm off for a striker who could score 15 goals a season, as they simply haven’t got that man in their squad at present.
Cenk Tosun, like Morata, made a very fast start to life in English football following his move to Goodison Park in January, but has so far struggled this season to build upon that, while other options such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Oumar Niasse simply aren’t going to get the goals required – it’s difficult to see where the goals are going to come from over the course of the season.
As such, Collymore is spot on to suggest that Chelsea need someone more prolific leading their side than Morata, and as such they should get rid of him, and Silva should seek to make sure that the Spaniard’s next destination is Goodison Park in a bid to solve his own striking woes.
