Former Rangers defender Alan Hutton believes that Sheyi Ojo’s performances in training, as well as in games will have been impressing Steven Gerrard.
The 22-year-old joined the Scottish giants on loan in the summer and has made a strong start to life north of the border.
Football Insider recently reported that the Ibrox club were interested in making the midfielder’s loan move permanent, and Hutton thinks that his work behind the scenes will have played a part in the Gers considering signing him.
“Training every day, they’ll see how he is, his attitude, his willingness to work and obviously he ticks those boxes because Gerrard doesn’t seem like the sort of guy that would put up with someone that didn’t,” Hutton told Football Insider.
“If you’re discussing things like that [signing Ojo permanently], it can only be a positive. Gerrard would have known him from Liverpool, he’ll know what his attributes are and what he’s capable of. He’s come in, done really well, is really direct and causing full-backs problems.
“Me being a full-back, that’s the one thing that’s difficult, when you’ve got someone with pace that’s very direct, it’s hard to stop, especially when they’re relentless.”
It is unknown exactly how well Ojo is doing in training, however, if you judge him on his first-team appearances so far then it is no surprise that Rangers want to sign him permanently.
The Liverpool loanee has featured 17 times for the Scottish club already this season, and has scored five goals and created four assists in that time (via Transfermarkt).
The fact that he has made so many first-team appearances shows that Gerrard must rate him and he seems him behind the scenes. If he continues to do so, and make an impact on the pitch in matches, then there may well be a bid made for him in upcoming transfer windows.
