Following a third consecutive Premier League defeat against Leicester City, a top-four finish is now out of Arsenal’s hands.
Wins from their remaining two fixtures versus Watford and Leicester would guarantee Chelsea Champions League football next season, something Ray Parlour expects to happen.
Considering that, the ex-Arsenal midfielder has told his former side to forget about the league and go all out for the Europa League from here on instead.
“It’s been a disaster, an absolute disaster for Arsenal,” Parlour told talkSPORT. “Their away form has been horrendous and they just haven’t been at the races in their last three games.
“I looked at the games against Crystal Palace, Wolves and then Leicester away – four points from nine is all they needed to possibly be in the top four, but how many did they get? None!
“I would put all the eggs in one basket now and go for the Europa League. Spurs will definitely be in the top four and you’ve got to fancy Chelsea for the other spot.”
With Spurs virtually having third place wrapped up and Chelsea now the clear favourites for that final Champions League place, it is easy to understand why Parlour is encouraging Arsenal to now throw everything at the Europa League.
However, just two points behind Chelsea, Unai Emery’s men could still so easily overtake their London rivals with two games left.
The visit of Watford and the trip to the King Power to take on Leicester will be far from easy fixtures for the Blues.
A draw against Javi Gracia’s side and they could quickly find themselves behind Arsenal, who have a great chance to improve their goal difference when they take on Brighton at the Emirates.
Ultimately, instead of the priority, the Europa League should be the fallback as far as Arsenal’s Champions League aspirations go with a top-four finish still more than possible for the north London club.
