Tottenham Hotspur: Dimitar Berbatov urges Harry Kane to leave his comfort zone

Former Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov has advised Harry Kane to keep pushing himself to be better if he is to be regarded as one of the world’s best strikers.

Berbatov feels that with Spurs’ poor form, Kane should not be relaxed while the 26-year-old remains in the goals in North London, with the striker netting 12 times so far this season for club and country.

Kane added to his tally with a goal in England’s defeat to Czech Republic on Friday, but Berbatov is concerned whether the Tottenham striker has the right mentality to get the most out of his football career.

He told Betfair (via Football.london): “Harry is scoring goals, but Spurs aren’t performing well. That’s a tough situation and I’ve been there before myself.

“I think he will be fine, but I do question if he is out of his comfort zone. Is he asking the right questions of himself?

“Yes, he’s starting for the team, he’s playing regularly and still scoring goals. But is that enough? Is he going to grow and develop constantly if he wants to be among the very best of the very best?

“So, for me, he has questions to answer.

It seems as if Berbatov is just stopping short of suggesting outright that Kane should be seeking a move to further his career with Tottenham’s results of late hampering their chances of success this season.

Given Kane has already won the Premier League’s Golden Boot on multiple occasions and its World Cup equivalent, it could be argued that trophies are the only thing missing from the striker’s footballing CV.

Whether that is achievable at Spurs is up for discussion, but not competing in the Champions League for a striker of his worth could further diminish his chances of silverware.

Though having been tied to Spurs for the entirety of his professional career, Kane may end up making a decision with his heart rather than his head. It may be that his future is dependent on which he regards more important: his club or his career.

So while Berbatov looks to question his attitude, it may not exactly serve to determine if it is positive or negative – but rather what perspective Kane has on his career, which appears to be at a crossroads.
