Tottenham Hotspur: Giovani Lo Celso tipped to prosper in Premier League by ESPN pundits

‘He will be a success’ – Julien Laurens talks up prospects of new Tottenham star

Football journalist Julien Laurens believes new Spurs signing Giovani Lo Celso can shine in the Premier League, talking up the former PSG midfielder’s attributes following his move on the final day of the transfer period.

Lo Celso signed for Spurs from Real Betis on a season-long loan deal, which includes an option to buy upon its expiry.

And Laurens, who spoke on ESPN FC, feels that Lo Celso has the ability to become a success in the Premier League for Spurs if he is able to adapt quickly to the demands of the league.

He said: “If he adapts quickly to the way Pochettino wants him to play in that team and to the different style of the Premier League, he will be a success there because he has great ability, great vision and his passing would be perfect for his relationship with Harry Kane, for example.”

Laurens’ views echoed those of fellow journalist and La Liga expert Sid Lowe – who had spoke highly of Lo Celso’s qualities in recent weeks, saying: “Bearing in mind this is a player who came from Paris Saint-Germain who wasn’t really getting opportunities there – but once he was given the opportunity, played really well last year.

“If he’s given a team that works well around him and he’s given the freedom to either play in a No10 role or maybe in one of those false wide midfielder roles where he’s encouraged to come inside – I think he’s got vision, I think’s he got technique, I think he could be a very good player for someone.”

That someone could be Spurs – especially if you consider WhoScored denote even more specialist attributes to Lo Celso other than what has caught the eyes of Laurens and Lowe.

Alongside passing, vision and technique, the 23-year-old is also thought to be proficient in dribbling and tackling – the latter of which is a supposed weakness of teammates Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko.

So it looks like Lo Celso is well-equipped to improve the Spurs midfield – but only time will tell if he can bring his strengths to the fore in the Premier League.
