BT Sport’s Glenn Hoddle has lavished praise on Harry Kane, following the Tottenham striker’s opportunist finish to put his team in front against Leicester City on Saturday lunchtime.
Kane somehow dug out a finish past Kasper Schmeichel despite falling to the ground as he made his way through Leicester defenders after being bundled over by Caglar Soyuncu.
Spurs would go on to lose the game, but the former Tottenham player and manager was in no doubt over the class of Kane’s finish.
Speaking on BT Sport, Hoddle said (via Football.london): “My word, what a finish that is. He is fouled and on his way down, and he still has the guile and the ability to make contact with the ball and put it in the top corner.
“He gets shoved and manages to drag it with his left foot and then manages to play it into the ground and then past Schmeichel.
“You won’t see a better goal. You can’t replicate that on a training ground.
“That’s why finishing is a one-off.”
Tottenham may not have got the result they wanted, but Kane’s record in front of goal has not suffered as their results paint a dull picture of their season so far.
Saturday’s strike was a fifth in seven games this season for Kane, while he notched four for England during the recent international break, giving him a ratio of one goal per game in all competitions.
With Kane showing his ability to go to great lengths to score, it seems as if there is no stopping the striker at the moment, given he clearly doesn’t even need to be upright to find the net.
And with Spurs not starting their season in a winning fashion – with just two wins from seven – perhaps it is just as well they have someone like Kane to consistently deliver.
