Brighton and Crystal Palace will both be desperate to come away from tonight’s game with points.
Two players that will be fundamental to these objectives will be defenders Lewis Dunk and Mamadou Sakho.
Both are huge figures at the back for each club, so let’s compare these two transfers…
Crystal Palace signed Sakho from Liverpool for £26m in the summer of 2017, in what was a huge signing for The Eagles.
The Frenchman had spent the last half of the season before at Selhurst Park after falling out of favour with Liverpool.
While he has been a reliable addition to the Palace squad, he has been ravaged by injuries. Even then, it is uncertain as to whether he has lived up to his fairly large price tag. Overall, this may not be seen as the greatest business by Palace.
TT Grade: B
Dunk is a player that has grown up through Brighton’s academy and has overseen a huge amount of success at the club.
He has seen The Seagulls travel from League One to the Premier League, and in the process earn an England cap as well. At the age of 27, he is defining himself as one of the better defenders in the Premier League, and was duly rewarded by Gareth Southgate.
Seeing as Brighton would not have needed to pay a penny for the centre-back, this has to be seen as amazingly good business.
TT Grade: A
There’s no denying that Dunk wins this battle hands down.
Coming through the academy, he was much cheaper than Sakho’s £26m, and while Sakho may be as good as him, in terms of a transfer or deal, Brighton have reaped the rewards from this deal significantly more.
This is a man that has taken The Seagulls up two divisions, and it is for that reason Dunk wins this battle.
