On August 1st 2018, Everton announced that they had secured the services of Lucas Digne from Spanish giants Barcelona for a reported £18 million.
The Toffees made a number of positive transfer decisions as they limbered up for their first season under Marco Silva, and it’s safe to say that Marcel Brands worked wonders in bringing Lucas Digne to the club.
Unsurprisingly, a lot of supporters gushed over the club’s decision to sign the Frenchman, as they took to Twitter to express their sheer delight over the announcement.

Buzzing with Digne coming in but it’s bittersweet at the same time because it means it’s the end of Baines. Been great for us and is a true legend.

Marcel Brands let fly in the summer transfer window as he made a number of moves, which included bringing the likes of Richarlison, Yerry Mina, Kurt Zouma, Andre Gomes and Bernard to the club.
But, arguably one of Brands’ best transfer decisions was to secure the services of Lucas Digne.
The Frenchman has made the left-back slot his own as he continues to excite fans down the left-hand side, with his marauding runs and crossing ability constantly working wonders. Indeed, that’s not the only thing that has worked well for him at Goodison Park as he’s managed to take Leighton Baines’ crown as the Toffees’ free-kick specialist.
Digne has a respectable three goals and four assists to his name at this moment in time, so it’s clear to see that he can have a positive effect in all areas of the field. He’s managed to cure one of Everton’s biggest problems at left-back with Baines getting on with age and Cuco Martina spending time out on loan, so supporters will forever be grateful.
Of course, many fans knew that Digne was a special talent when he rocked up on Merseyside after impressing during his time at Barcelona, but no one would have thought that he’d rise straight to the top at Goodison Park.
