Sunderland are going strong in League One this season as they currently sit inside the automatic promotion places, while Barnsley are five points behind them in fifth position.
The Black Cats won’t accept anything less than promotion straight back to the Championship in the current campaign, having come on leaps and bounds under Jack Ross. Meanwhile, the Tykes have also looked very impressive this season and currently have a game in hand, so they’ll be looking to do the same thing.
Interestingly, Barnsley and Sunderland have been two of the standout performers in League One this season, so we took a look at Chris Maguire and Brad Potts’ influence at their respective clubs.
With that in mind, let’s compare these two transfers…
Arriving from Bury, Chris Maguire signed a two-year deal at the Stadium of Light back in the summer months as he became Jack Ross’ third summer signing.
It’s safe to say that the 29-year-old has proved to be an absolute gem for the Black Cats this season as he continues to put in match-winning performances, with five assists and five goals to his name at this moment in time. And, the versatile Scotsman even managed to win the EFL League One goal of the month for September.
The forward has been able to contribute in all areas of the field this season, which has helped Sunderland’s promotion push massively, so he will play a huge part in the rest of their campaign.

Barnsley signed Brad Potts from Blackpool for an undisclosed fee back in the summer of 2017.
The 24-year-old has gone on to become one of the standout performers at the club, with this season being one of the best yet in his footballing career. He currently has six goals and three assists to his name from the middle of midfield, which has helped the club massively in their quest for promotion.
However, the Tykes sweated over the midfielder’s future back in the summer months as Barnsley reportedly rejected a six-figure bid from an unnamed club. But, this came to nothing as they kept him at Oakwell.

When comparing these two, it’s quite difficult to separate them as they’re both playing out of their skins for their respective clubs this season.
Sunderland will be delighted that Jack Ross managed to secure a gem in the form of Chris Maguire back in the summer months as his contributions really have been priceless.
On the other hand, Brad Potts has been one of the main contributors in the final third for Barnsley, along with Kieffer Moore, but he has been outshone by Alex Mowatt at times.
Both players have already showcased their talents in League One this season as two of the standout performers, but while Sunderland secured a gem in the form of Chris Maguire back in the summer, Barnsley were too busy sweating over the future of Brad Potts.
