TT Battle: Connor Mahoney vs Pablo Hernandez

Leeds United currently find themselves in an incredible position in the race for automatic promotion to the Premier League, while Birmingham City battle to stay in the division.

The Whites have been simply sensational under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa with their recent win over Millwall showing everyone that they have the grit and determination needed to secure promotion. Meanwhile, the Blues will be desperate to ensure consistency from here on in to give themselves the best possible chance of staying up.

Interestingly, Birmingham City will welcome Leeds United to St Andrew’s later on today in what could be a very close encounter, with both sides having a lot to play for.

With that in mind, let’s compared the two players…

CONNOR MAHONEY

Connor Mahoney has been one of the standout performers for Birmingham City after joining on loan from AFC Bournemouth, having produced two goals and four assists in the Championship.

He’s really come into his own in recent times and he’ll no doubt play a huge part from here on in until the end of the season. Although, with relegation possibly being the outcome in the current campaign it remains to be seen as to whether they’ll be able to welcome him back next season.

TT GRADE: B+

PABLO HERNANDEZ

Pablo Hernandez has been levels above pretty much everyone in the Championship this season as he continues to shock everyone, with 10 goals and 11 assists to his name. The Spanish wizard really has spearheaded Leeds’ promotion push and they’ll be counting on him to take them into the Premier League from here on in.

His creativity, dribbling and finishing ability makes him an absolute nuisance in the final third.

TT GRADE: A

TT VERDICT:

It’s clear to see that Hernandez is levels above Mahoney but the on loan Bournemouth man deserves some credit as he’s doing his best to get Birmingham City out of the hole they currently find themselves in.

Nevertheless, there’s very few players that have matched up to Hernandez in the current campaign, so Mahoney could have his work cut out against Leeds United if the Spaniard steals the show.
