TT Battle: Jack Marriott vs Lewis Grabban

Derby County and Nottingham Forest face each other next Monday in a game that sees two teams that are looking to get into the playoffs.

Under Frank Lampard, Derby have been one of the best sides in the league. Forest, likewise have been one of the most consistent sides in the league and have been led by the form of Lewis Grabban up front. Although he hasn’t played much, Jack Marriot has been a quality player for the side.

Lewis Grabban

It’s been a journeyman career for Lewis Grabban as the experienced striker joined Forest over the summer to make the side his 12th team in his career. He joined Forest for a £6 million fee after a two-year period with Bournemouth that had seen him make three loan moves.

Quick and always alive in the box, Grabban has been superb for Forest this season and is currently the league’s top scorer. The lively forward has netted 14 in the league this season and is a huge reason as to why Aitor Karanka’s side are within touching distance of the top six.

The striker did well during his time at Sunderland and scored 12 goals in 19 games with the Black Cats. He’s continued that form at Forest. He’s always looking to get in behind and is always alive in the box.

Jack Marriott

After forming a devastating partnership with Marcus Maddison at Peterborough, Lampard signed the striker on a three-year deal after scoring 27 goals in League One last season. The striker didn’t start the season as the main striker but after sitting on the bench for the first month or two, Marriott was installed as the main striker in the side and he hasn’t looked back since.

He’s scored six goals so far this season and looks completely at home in the Championship. He’s quick and always looks to get in behind the last defender. Furthermore, when he’s in on goal he always looks like he’ll score.

As it stands, Derby look to have made a superb signing.

The Verdict

Although Grabban is the in-form striker in the league, Marriott wins this one. He’s always looking to get in behind and is a superb finisher. Grabban is a great striker but at just 24, Derby may have a striker that could lead them to the Premier League.
