There is no doubt that Unai Emery will need to head into the transfer market in the summer to make improvements to his squad. The Spaniard has managed to achieve remarkable things with Arsenal this season, however, he could face one of the biggest tests at the end of the campaign.
It is no secret that Aaron Ramsey will be leaving the club to join Juventus on a free transfer and Emery will be tasked with trying to find someone capable of replacing him and making sure the Wales international isn’t missed at the Emirates Stadium.
Joan Jordan has been linked with a move to the Gunners recently, however, is he really good enough to potentially fill the huge gap that Ramsey will leave when he heads for Turin? Let’s take a closer look at the pair below…
Marca recently reported that Arsenal were interested in Eibar’s Jordan and viewed him as a potential Ramsey replacement. It is understood that he could be available for a fee of around €15million (£12.8m), which could play into the Premier League outfit’s hands as Emery is expected to have a rather restricted transfer budget.
But, would the 24-year-old be worth trying to bring to the Emirates Stadium in the summer? Well, based on the type of player he is, he could turn out to be a younger version of the Wales international.
Jordan likes to run with the ball at defences and is not scared of having a shot at goal when he sees fit, having hit three goals so far this season, whilst he is also rather creative and has an eye for a defence-splitting pass.
The Spaniard loves to take the ball from defence to attack and could provide the Gunners with some intensity and flair in the middle of the field – something that has been really lacking from the Emirates Stadium outfit.
There is no way of sugar-coating the blow that Ramsey will cause Arsenal when he leaves in the summer. It is going to be huge and the club are going to have to do all they can to try and replace him sufficiently.
In fact, the Wales international has been a standout for the club since announcing that he was leaving and has been one of their best players on the pitch with a number of his performances, making the pill that much harder for fans to swallow.
The 28-year-old has been hugely influential for the Gunners this season and his contributions to the team have been second-to-none despite his imminent departure.
His leadership has been crucial in the midfield, as has the fact that he has been able to score a number of important goals for the club this season which has helped Arsenal be in the position that they currently find themselves in.
Jordan might actually be the answer to Emery’s nightmares when it comes down to trying to replace Ramsey in the summer. The Spanish midfielder has been flying under the radar with Eibar in La Liga this season and has shown that he has plenty of qualities in order to replace the outgoing star.
Obviously, it will be hugely difficult to replace the 28-year-old and not necessarily a task that the Gunners may be successful in doing so almost immediately.
However, with Jordan thought to have a release clause of just £12.8m, it might just be worth Emery and Arsenal biting the bullet on this one.
