TT Battle: Manuel Lanzini vs Miguel Almiron

West Ham United and Newcastle United will meet at the London Stadium in Saturday’s evening kickoff.

The Hammers may have splashed the cash in the summer making reinforcements and adding quality to their side, however, the return of Manuel Lanzini is sure to have felt like a new addition in recent weeks.

The Magpies finally broke their transfer record in January when they completed a deal to bring Miguel Almiron from Atalanta United for £20million and he looks to have already made a positive impact on the side.

However, with the South American duo set to go up against each other this weekend, who is better?

Manuel Lanzini

As mentioned, Lanzini has only just been able to return to the side following a serious knee injury he picked up whilst preparing for the World Cup with Argentina last summer.

He came on as a second-half substitute in the game against Fulham last week and received a standing ovation from fans, showing clearly how valued he is at the club.

The £18million-rated ace, as per Transfermarkt, was instrumental for West Ham last season, helping himself to five goals and seven assists in his 27 Premier League matches and someone Manuel Pellegrini will be desperate to make the most of for the remainder of the current campaign.

With just ten games to go, if Lanzini can have the impact he did for the Irons last year, everyone will be delighted to have him back fit and firing.

TT Grade: B+

Miguel Almiron

Almiron has started his Newcastle career in electric fashion and appears to have quickly won the hearts of those at St. James’ Park.

The Paraguayan winger works tirelessly on the wings and appears to have added some much needed attacking threat to Rafa Benitez’s side, something the Spaniard would have been desperate to have in the early stages of the campaign.

The 25-year-old is a pacy player and has the ability to cause defences in the Premier League real problems and would appear to be a player that can completely lift the mood and atmosphere at the Toon Army with his performances.

Still early days into life in the north-east, however, if he continues to shine, it is likely he will only get better and is a player worthy of having broken the club’s previously long-standing record transfer.

TT Grade: B

The Verdict:

Both players appear to have the ability to lift the crowds with their performances and will look to have a big impact in the final stages of the season.

Almiron looks to be a great addition for Newcastle, however, with Lanzini having already had a taste of Premier League football, he will likely prove to be a bigger hit this season.

With that in mind, the Argentine wins this battle between the two South American attackers.
