Derby County have been one of the standout performers in the Championship this season, while Aston Villa have struggled to ensure consistency.
The Rams currently sit in fifth position and are looking good under Frank Lampard, while Aston Villa find themselves down in fourteenth position after a rollercoaster start to their season.
Interestingly, it has been Mason Mount that has been the source of all things brilliant for Derby County this season, however, Jack Grealish has struggled to replicate last season’s form at Aston Villa.
With that in mind, let’s compare these two transfers…
Frank Lampard managed to bring Mason Mount to Pride Park on loan from Chelsea on the 17th of July 2018, and it’s safe to say that Derby County have never looked back since.
The Englishman has been a great addition to the Championship and will have a huge say on whether Derby secure promotion to the Premier League, with his five goals and two assists certainly helping their cause.
And, the midfielder’s hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed this season as he was handed his first senior England call-up, with the sky being the limit from here on in for the 19-year-old.
TT GRADE: A
Jack Grealish is a product of Aston Villa’s youth system and has established himself as one of the hottest prospects in English football since returning on loan from Notts County.
The Englishman has plenty of potential and has already shown his quality at Villa Park over the past couple of seasons, which almost secured him a move to the Premier League in the summer. But, things haven’t exactly gone to plan in the current campaign, with just one goal and two assists to his name so far.
Nevertheless, the attacking midfielder has the ability to unlock any defence on his day and will play a huge part in Aston Villa’s campaign, so supporters shouldn’t completely write him off.
TT GRADE: B+
When comparing these two, it’s clear to see that Mount is enjoying the rub of the green this season, but Jack Grealish can match the 19-year-old on his day and has been performing at a higher level for a longer period of time.
Of course, it’s inevitable that the 19-year-old will return to his parent club and fight for a first team place there upon the expiry of his loan deal, having enjoyed an incredible time of things at Pride Park.
But, the same can’t be said about Aston Villa’s star man as he continues to struggle this season, with improvements required if they are to challenge for a play-off spot.
So, with Mount making all the headlines, it’s about time Grealish started to creep out of his shadow.
