Denis Suarez is the man who the media (as per Goal) have been touting as the man to turn Arsenal’s midfield around and replace the departing Aaron Ramsey. However, back in November, the Gunners were linked in the Mirror with a January swoop for Villarreal’s Pablo Fornals and here we’re going to compare the two Spanish midfielders to see who’s the better fit.
Denis Suarez is one who is the most likely to sign at the moment seeing as Emery has confirmed that he has no money to spend this month and is being restricted to making just loan deals. However, if he could pin down either of the two on a loan deal with an option or obligation to buy in the summer then it could prove to be a very useful move as both of the Spanish midfielders would add quality at The Emirates.
Starting with the man who everyone seems to think is Arsenal-bound, Denis Suarez is a superb player. Take nothing away from him for the fact that he’s struggling for game time at Barcelona, as it’s not easy to get into one of the best midfields in world football, yet when he does play he always shines, and he’s bagged two goals and one assist in just 244 minutes of football this season.
That works out as a goal involvement for every 81 minute that the midfielder spends on the pitch, and that will be something that Emery will be keen to get in on. However, the adjustment from La Liga to the Premier League will be tough, and it will only be made harder by the fact that Suarez has played so little game time this season, as the Gunners will need to assure he’s got the match fitness to step in.

Fornals is a superb young player. Whilst Denis Suarez is 25-years-old, the Villarreal man is three years younger than him and has a Transfermarkt valuation of an incredible £27 million. His role as a creative midfielder in Villarreal’s side is a tough one as Luis Garcia’s side is struggling and currently find themselves in the relegation zone in La Liga at the moment. However, the young midfielder has still been able to shine.
Fornals is undoubtedly one of the brightest young midfielders in La Liga at the moment, and despite his club’s struggles, he’s doing himself justice. The 22-year-old scored a goal of the season contender when he scored a sublime goal from the best part of 40 yards against Athletic Bilbao, and he’s a man that the Gunners would love to poach from the struggling La Liga side, even if financially it would be tough to complete.

Whilst Denis Suarez is the more realistic of the two Spaniards to join Arsenal, Unai Emery must give some serious thoughts to getting a deal done for Fornals if he can as the Villarreal star will undoubtedly prove to be a better option in the long-term that the exiled Barcelona man, even if they have to wait until the summer to get it done.
