Flashback: Aston Villa appoint Dean Smith - Transfer Flashbacks

Aston  Villa fans were delighted to see the back of Steve Bruce last year and they’ll be even more pleased now having seen how well Dean Smith has done in recent times.

Smith took over at Aston Villa in October after a successful time of things at Griffin Park. And, with John Terry joining him as his assistant after a heroic season as a player at Villa Park, it’s safe to say that fans were excited.

Dean Smith had a lot to live up to at Villa Park when he joined with fans hopeful of going one better than last season in the play-offs, after suffering heartbreak at Wembley Stadium.

He very almost managed to secure an impressive win at the Hawthorns towards the start of his reign at the club but the Villans were denied by a late Jay Rodriguez goal. Sadly, things went downhill after losing Jack Grealish to injury as the Villans just couldn’t ensure consistency, which put their play-off hopes in doubt.

However, Smith gave Grealish the captain’s armband on his return from injury on the 2nd of March and he hasn’t looked back since, with the Villans breaking their club record recently after securing their tenth straight victory.

The Englishman has managed to take Villa from a mid-table side to sitting comfortably in the play-offs. Supporters at Villa Park will already be extremely grateful for what he’s done for the club, including signing the likes of Tyrone Mings and Kortney Hause back in the January transfer window.
