On the 19th of May 2012, Didier Drogba eternised himself in Chelsea folklore.
The Ivory Coast international scored a late goal in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich and subsequently scored the trophy-winning penalty, in a game that the fans will never forget.
He left The Blues after that game and after an eight-year association with the club, where he had won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups and of course the Champions League. The fans were obviously devastated to see one of their greatest forwards they have ever had leave Stamford Bridge.
However, after two years away from the club, Chelsea made the shock move in signing Drogba again on a free transfer in the summer of 2014. He had come back to team up with returning manager José Mourinho who was also in his second stint as manager of The Blues. The big striker had been at Galatasaray the two seasons prior but had not been hugely successful.
When Chelsea announce the news of Drogba’s return, the fans flocked to Twitter to show their jubilation. Very rarely does this happen in the modern era and the fans were rightfully over the moon at his return.
