Exactly one year ago last Monday, Chris Coleman left Sunderland. In the 12 months since, the Black Cats have taken to life in League One under Jack Ross and shown some positive signs, but the decision making that saw Coleman leave last year was shocking. Coleman is a top manager in his own right, and the fans knew instantly it was a shambolic decision.

The statement in question that delivered the news that both Coleman and his assistant Kit Symons had been released from their contracts was just five lines long and the Mackems could not believe what their club had come to. The news of Coleman’s departure came just eight days after their relegation to League One had been confirmed, and this was as rock-bottom as it would come for the Wearside club.
Had Coleman stayed at the club it would have provided the fans with a brilliant chance of coming back up to the Championship automatically in the current campaign, but as it has been Jack Ross has done a stellar job even if they’ve had to settle for the playoffs. The worst of days look to be behind Sunderland, and they’ll hope so too, as it can’t get much worse than when Coleman left.

As I have said before Chris Coleman isn’t to be blamed for this. Sorry to see you go all the best for the future #sadday#future#safc

It’s a disgrace, like many others I have been a loyal supporter for 55 years and this club management has reached an all time low. I am embarrassed to say I am a supporter. Chris Coleman is a good man and deserves better.

Terrible terrible terrible decision. You might as well just announce administration now

Half the fans only renewed because he wanted to stay at the club

Its disgusting that Chris Coleman has been finished. He was a good manager dealing with an impossible situation. I'm pleased the club's been sold and shorts down the road. Just feel sad about Coleman though.

Clubs a joke, nothing more to be said.

The Mackems could not believe what they were reading when they saw the Coleman news and will just hope that they don’t have to through any more awful times anytime soon.
