Flashback: Garry Monk takes charge at Birmingham City

Birmingham City fans would have felt relieved as the 2017/18 came to a close as they managed to escape relegation. The club didn’t waste any time in appointing a new manager after relieving Steve Cotterill of his duties at St Andrew’s as Garry Monk took charge one day later.

However, some supporters were less than impressed with the club’s decision to appoint Garry Monk, as they took to Twitter to express their disappointment over the announcement.

Garry Monk had never really managed to settle down at a club prior to his arrival at St Andrew’s. He helped Swansea City through a relegation battle, and has since narrowly missed the Championship play-offs at Leeds and had Middlesbrough close to the top six before his departure.

And, it’s safe to say that he’s worked wonders at Birmingham City as he’s taken them from a side fighting relegation to a play-off challenging side in literally no time at all.

Indeed, one of the main reasons behind the club’s success in the current campaign has been down to Che Adams who continues to find the back of the net. The one man who has helped the Englishman thrive since taking up a position alongside Monk has been James Beattie, so fans will forever be grateful for his hard work and efforts.

Also, Monk has developed a number of players this season, including Wes Harding, who has gone on to establish himself as a key member.

The Englishman has proved so many supporters wrong as the Blues continue to chase down a play-off spot. Monk has already established himself as a fan favourite at St Andrew’s and this is only his first season in charge at the Midlands club, with things set to get better from here on in.

Birmingham City fans, how far can Monk take your side?
