West Ham United’s Manuel Pellegrini was truly welcomed back to the Premier League with a hard dose of reality!
The Chilean’s first match in charge of the Hammers was an away trip to Anfield where they were on the receiving end of a resounding 4-0 defeat to Liverpool.
A drubbing of that kind is always difficult to watch and hard to take, however, the Merseyside outfit had been an exceptional side over the last year or so and continued to show how good they were in the 2018/19 Premier League season.
Many West Ham fans would have taken to Twitter to vent their frustrations at how badly the team played and whether the former Manchester City manager had what it took to take them to the next level of their ambitious plans.
However, there were some who were more than willing to knock the result on its head and move on from it believing Pellegrini was the man to get the London Stadium rocking.
Here are just some of their reactions…
Jurgen Klopp “West Ham are a good team, they will have a good season for sure, but they aren’t the United’s and City’s”
1 game in lads, chill out, it’s gonna come! Pellegrini era will be huge.

Another 4-0 loss to start & 4 conceded to a very strong Liverpool Not the best start, a goal or two been nice.
But early days, we have tough first 7 but should give our team time to gel. Get some harder games out the way & we have an easier December.
In Pellegrini we trust

Need to scrap today’s defeat against Liverpool and go again on Saturday. Next week will really prove where we are at. I trust Pellegrini and I believe he can get the best out of our players. Remember he just brought in 10 new players, just need to gel now

We were pathetic and embarrassing today against a Liverpool side who could challenge city for the premier league title. We didn't defend well. But I still believe that pellegrini is the right man to take west ham forward #COYI #WHUFC

And, it would seem that those fans were right to have patience and wait to see how things would turn out for them as the season went on.
Although the Hammers were largely (and infuriating at times) inconsistent, Pellegrini managed to bring a style of attractive football to the club that has not been seen for a long time.
The Chilean’s side appeared to be easier on the eye with their play, whilst they were also more adventurous and attacking with the ball in possession. Obviously, the addition of Felipe Anderson helped with that aspect.
A tenth-placed finish this season has gone on to show that he has the ability to lead the team to brighter times as the Hammers had to only slightly worry about relegation for a few minutes it seemed like, compared to their normal whole-season nerves.
As transitional years go, it could not have gone too much better for the Irons.
Thus, if Pellegrini is given the financial backing he had last summer this time around and he can make the improvements to his squad that will have been highlighted throughout the campaign, then just maybe the Chilean could be the man to lead them to European football in the future.
