Sean Longstaff began his career with the youth team at Newcastle United. He was loaned out to Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock in January 2017 and then went on to sign for Blackpool on loan later that year, which helped him secure regular minutes as he impressed at both club.
Longstaff was hugely impressive during pre-season back in the summer months, so he was rewarded with a new four-year contract in December of last year. December would turn out to be a month to remember for the youngster as he made his Premier League debut against Liverpool at Anfield in a 4-0 loss.
One moment that fans may remember from his debut was when he glided around Virgil Van Dijk, as he outshone almost every senior Newcastle United player on the field, as well as some of the Reds.
Indeed, the youngster has gone up the gears since then as he’s now established himself as a first team regular at St James’ Park, with a number of incredible performances under his belt. He scored his first Premier League goal against Burnley recently which lifted his tally up to two after netting against Blackburn in the FA Cup.
It’s safe to say that the Englishman has all the ingredients to become a future star in the Premier League and he’s already established himself as a fan favourite at St James’ Park. So, fans will forever be grateful for Rafa Benitez’s decision to gift him his Premier League debut against the Reds, as his contributions have been invaluable.
Newcastle United fans, do you remember this memorable day for the youngster? Surely this has to be up there as one of the best memories so far this season…
