Flashback: QPR appoint Steve McClaren

From day one, Steve McClaren had been a hugely unpopular figure at Queens Park Rangers.

Few supporters wanted to see him in that Loftus Road dugout, and it quickly became apparent as to why.

Under McClaren, QPR got off to a dreadful start in the Championship this season, with a 7-1 thrashing to West Brom epitomising just how bad they had been.

And while the 58-year-old managed to steady the ship as the campaign progressed, the west London club quickly found themselves floating just above the relegation zone after another awful run of form.

So when he was sacked at the beginning of April, it came as no surprise, especially to those who did not want him at the helm in the first place and predicted his downfall.

Rather, what was surprising was Tony Fernandes’ decision to wield the axe so late and appoint the former England boss from the beginning.

Now preparing for the next season with Mark Warburton in charge, QPR supporters will not only be demanding better results, but also a much better and more entertaining brand of football.

The whole McClaren chapter is one they will be desperate to put behind them and one Fernandes, Les Ferdinand and the rest of the QPR decision makers have got to learn from.

QPR fans, were there any good moments during McClaren’s short stint in the Loftus Road dugout? Join the discussion by commenting below.
