Flashback: Wayne Rooney leaves Man United

When talking of Premier League legends, Wayne Rooney needs no introduction. During his 13 Seasons with Man United, the former England captain won almost everything there is to win.
He is the Red Devils’ record goal scorer as well as England’s record goal scorer and is one of the two men to score 200 Premier League goals. He is a five time Premier League winner, a three-time League Cup winner and an FA Cup winner, as well as being part of the victorious Champions League team in 2008.
So when Rooney announced in the summer of 2017 that he would be leaving Man United and returning to boyhood club Everton, it not only sent shockwaves through the Premier League but through world football too. This was truly the end of an era, and while many Man United fans would have said that he was no longer the player he was, it was still a bitter pill to swallow for them.
This is what the fans had to say:
Forever a legend for the club. There will never be another @WayneRooney. Thank you so much for everything. #FarewellToALegend

The legacy Wayne left will continue to speak for him at Old Trafford. Accept my apology for all criticisms recently. One love Wayne. Thanks.

Rooney only lasted one season with Everton, playing 31 games in the Premier League and scoring 10 goals, which is it actually not that bad a return. Some fans may have thought it was bizarre to let him go, but he left for MLS outfit DC United in June 2018 where he is enjoying a swan song at the end of his career.
Although joining after the season had started, he racked up 12 goals and six assists in 21 matches in the MLS and made them one of the most dangerous teams in the United States. It is unclear how long his career will last for, but he will always be remembered as a Man United legend and one that we may never see the likes of again.
