Back in the January transfer window of 2017, Everton secured a deal to bring the hugely talented Ademola Lookman to Goodison Park on a four-and-a-half year deal.
The 21-year-old had come up through the ranks and made his senior bow at Charlton Athletic before impressing greatly at the London club, prompting Toffees boss-at-the-time Ronald Koeman to part with £11 million to bring the attacker to the blue half of Merseyside.
And such was the start to senior football he made at the Valley, alongside the immense amount of potential Lookman had, a lot of Everton fans took to Twitter to rave about their club’s newest signing…
UNREAL. BETTER THAN STERLING

Lookman a nightmare for defenders. Strong with either foot so can go both ways.

And while there is little doubting that Koeman pulled off quite a coup in luring one of English football’s brightest talents to Everton little under two years ago, the 21-year-old hasn’t quite delivered on that immense promise in the early phase of his Toffees career.
Ultimately, Koeman lured Lookman to Goodison Park in a bid to bolster his attacking ranks for both the present and indeed the future, with it taking the 21-year-old a matter of minutes to net his first goal for the club on debut in their 4-0 thumping of Manchester City on January 15.
Yet that paved the way for just seven further Premier League appearances that term in Everton’s ascent to seventh place in the top-flight, a struggle which carried forth into the 2017/18 campaign given Lookman didn’t appear at all in any of the Toffees’ opening eight league matches.
The sacking of Koeman in October did help his cause though, with the 21-year-old appearing six times in the league between October and December, only to then instigate a loan move to RB Leipzig come the New Year having failed to play any of their league games in January under Sam Allardyce.
And what a decision that turned out to be from the attacker given he excelled in the Bundesliga with the top-flight outfit, netting five goals and laying on four assists in just 11 appearances for the club to help them to a sixth place finish, and thus qualification for this season’s Europa League.
And that excellent loan spell must have had Lookman feeling good about his chances of first team football upon return to Goodison Park, only for things to follow a similar trend as before under new boss Silva.
The Portuguese has afforded the England Under-21 international just six Premier League appearances so far this season of which none have been starts, and while he has at least appeared in their last four games, it doesn’t look like regular football is going to be easy for the 21-year-old.
Yes, the form of Theo Walcott recently could open the door for Lookman in the coming weeks, but given Silva has so far been reluctant to drop the former in favour of the latter suggests that he maybe isn’t quite convinced about Lookman’s starting pedigree.
Thus, while those Everton fans were right to rave about the coup Koeman pulled off back in 2017, it hasn’t transpired into anything magical just yet, with it seeming that Silva isn’t totally convinced to trust Lookman with a start in his Toffees team.
