He’s really come on this season, hasn’t he? Upon his arrival from Leeds United in early 2017, Alex Mowatt’s move seemed a positive one for Barnsley as although in recent years prior to it he had not been able to step up his game after the promise he showed as a youngster just coming into the Whites’ first-team, he still had youth on his side and a lot to offer.
Given that he was just 21 when he made the move from Elland Road to Oakwell, a lot of Barnsley fans were still excited about what Mowatt could offer.
welcome Alex, like I always say – hang on and enjoy the ride. Glad you chose BFC to further your career !

United fans also provided their thoughts too. Many were positive about their academy graduate but others not so much.
Got yourselves a top player there. Look after him #lufc

No disrespect to Alex but he couldn't get in the team you beat last week. All the best to him tho.

After making the move, Mowatt originally struggled to heavily impact the Tykes and the following campaign, he was shipped out to League One side Oxford United on a season-long loan. He did not set the league alight then, unfortunately, but upon his return to Barnsley under Daniel Stendel this season, he has taken the same division by storm at his parent club and with a new manager at the helm.
Mowatt has been a pivotal figure in Barnsley’s promotion chase, contributing with six goals and eight assists along the way. His performances have been rewarded with a spot in the EFL Team of the Season, so he has clearly impressed and in the eyes of the Oakwell faithful, long may it continue.
