Transfer Flashback: Cameron McGeehan to Barnsley

Transfer Flashback: Cameron McGeehan to Barnsley

He’s been fantastic this season, hasn’t he? The turning point for Cameron McGeehan’s career has seemingly been this season under Daniel Stendel and Barnsley fans will be hoping it long continues.

When McGeehan arrived at Oakwell in 2017 following a stellar campaign with Luton Town in League Two, he came with a positive reputation given displays during the two-and-a-half-years he was at Luton.

Things had not worked out for him at Norwich City but lots of Barnsley fans still had good reason to be excited and made their feelings be known on Twitter.

Lots of Luton fans also gave their sign of approval and wished him well.

Having not been too impactful in his first months at Barnsley, McGeehan moved to Scunthorpe United on loan, but neither there was he able to nail down a regular spot in the starting 11.

However, the 24-year-old has since come on leaps and bounds, partnered by Alex Mowatt in the middle of the park as he took his chance when Kenny Dougall got injured. McGeehan has netted six goals and provided two assists from central midfield and has been a pivotal figure in the promotion-winning campaign.

Ready for the Championship next season, what a signing this was back in June 2017. It’s certainly been quite the journey and, considering the club’s work under Daniel Stendel this year, it’s not over just yet.
