On January 26th 2016, Middlesbrough signed Gaston Ramirez on loan from Southampton until the end of the season.
The 27-year-old made his debut on the 9th of February against Milton Keynes Dons in the Championship, but he didn’t manage to make his first contribution for the club until the 23rd of February as he found the back of the net and produced an assist against Cardiff City.
This wouldn’t have come as a surprise for some supporters, with a handful of them feeling confident in the attacking midfielder’s ability upon arrival, as they took to the confirmation of the signing on Twitter in a positive manner.

Whether he hasn't done well for Southampton or not, Gaston Ramirez is an outstanding deal

Born in Fray Bentos, Uruguay, Ramirez moved to the capital city Montevideo to join Penarol when he was sixteen. And, he made his professional debut for the club at age 18 on the 21st of March 2009.
Interestingly, the attacking midfielder secured a move to Italian side Bologna on the 25th of August 2010, where he would spend two years of his footballing career before joining Premier League side Southampton for an undisclosed fee on the 31st of August 2012.
However, things didn’t work out for him at St Mary’s as he was shipped out on loan to Hull City, but only managed to find the back of the net on one occasion due to a number of injuries.
It wasn’t until his loan switch to Middlesbrough that he finally found his feet in English football as he scored seven times and provided four assists for his teammates, with Boro securing promotion to the Premier League.
And, things didn’t stop there for the South American at the Riverside Stadium as he later went on to sign a three-year deal at the club upon the expiry of his contract at Southampton, which absolutely delighted supporters as their team took to life in the Premier League.
Indeed, the attacker went on to score two goals and provided three assists in the top-flight of English football, which included a breathtaking solo goal against Bournemouth.
So, it comes as no surprise that supporters were so ecstatic to see their side secure the services of the Uruguayan on loan back in 2016, as he went on to shape their future by helping secure promotion to the Premier League.
