Georginio Wijnaldum enjoyed spells at Feyenoord, PSV Eindhoven and Premier League side Newcastle United prior to his move to Liverpool.
On the 22nd of July 2016, Liverpool secured the services of Wijnaldum for a reported £25 million.
Wijnaldum scored a number of important goals during his first season at the club, including the only goal to secure all three points against Manchester City, as well as the opening goal against Middlesbrough in a match that secured a top four finish and a 2017-18 Champions League berth.
Indeed, one of the Dutchman’s most important goals for the Reds came in the away leg of the club’s Champions League semi-final tie with AS Roma, as it ended up finishing 7-6 on aggregate. But, he just wasn’t able to help his side secure a positive result in the final against a Real Madrid side that capitalised on Loris Karius’ mistakes.
It’s safe to say that the midfielder has gone up another gear in the current campaign as one of the most underrated players at Anfield, as he constantly puts in a shift in defensive and attacking areas, which really helps the Reds tick.
It comes as no surprise that fans were so delighted to see FSG splash the cash to secure his services as he’s turned out to be a gem signing. He has played a crucial part in the Reds’ title push in the current campaign and will continue to aid their rise in Europe, and he’s racked well over 100 appearances for the Merseyside club.
