Transfer Flashback: James Maddison to Leicester

On June 20th 2018, Leicester City announced that they had agreed terms with Norwich City for the transfer of James Maddison.

The 22-year-old scored his first Premier League goal on the 18th of August in a 2–0 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers, and then he later went on to find the back of the net in back-to-back top-flight games.

Supporters were over the moon with the club’s decision to sign Maddison, as they took to the confirmation on Twitter to express their delight over the signing.

James Maddison signed his first professional contract at Coventry City back in November 2014, but he wasn’t able to have much of an impact as he was sent off during a Boxing Day defeat and suffered a back injury.

The Englishman then went on to sign for Norwich City in February of 2016, but he didn’t make an appearance in the first-team ranks until April 2017, as he was sent on loan to Coventry and Aberdeen.

He started to receive regular starts at Carrow Road after Daniel Farke took charge, which helped him reach top form as he managed to produce 15 goals and 11 assists, along with securing Norwich City’s Player of the Year award.

On June 20th 2018, Leicester City announced that they had agreed terms with Norwich City for the transfer of James Maddison, which crowned him as their third summer signing.

Of course, the midfielder hasn’t been at the club for long, but he has already had a huge impact.

The 22-year-old scored his first Premier League goal on the 18th of August in a 2–0 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers, and then he later went on to find the back of the net in back-to-back top-flight games. He has continued to impress since then as the Foxes’ go-to man, taking his tally to five goals and four assists.

Maddison received his first call-up to the England senior squad this season, as well as establishing himself as one of the standout performers at the King Power Stadium, so the future looks very bright for the midfielder.

So, it’s easy to understand why supporters were so excited about his arrival back in the summer transfer window, as he has quickly developed into a star at the King Power Stadium this season. And, he will continue to play a huge part in the Midlands club’s push for a European spot, with plenty more goals and assists to come.
