Last January, Nottingham Forest signed Huddersfield man Joe Lolley in a deal that looked like a smart piece of business by Forest, although he didn’t arrive with much fanfare.
Lolley had been a solid player during his time at Huddersfield although he was barely used during their first season back in the Premier League. He had his best season for the club during the 2015/16 season where he played 32 games while scoring four goals and grabbing two assists.
Signed from Kidderminster Harriers in 2014, Lolley made more than 80 appearances for the club but with his deal set to run out in 2019 at Huddersfield, they sold the attacking midfielder.
At the time, the move may not have grabbed the headlines due to the amount of new players that joined the club but as of now, it looks as though Forest pulled off a superb deal for the attacking midfielder.
Here’s what the Forest fans had to say when he arrived at the club…
Joe Lolley, what a signing!! #NFFC

This is a fantastic signing for us. Saw plenty of him at Kiddy. Under used by Huddersfield sadly, great signing and plenty of goals en route!

Joining halfway through the season, it was likely that the Forest fans wouldn’t see the best of the attacker in his first year. Indeed, he had a solid season without being fantastic as he scored three goals in 16 games for the club.
This year, however, he has emerged as the club’s best player and arguably one of the best in the Championship. Combined with Lewis Grabban, he has formed one of the most deadly partnerships in the league. With those two players at the club, Aitor Karanka has a duo that could take the club into the Premier League.
Unlike many players in the league, Lolley has the rare ability to not only create goals but score them too as he’s now scored six while creating a further six. Crucially for Karanka, the 26-year-old is capable of playing in all of the attacking positions behind the striker and is never afraid of unleashing a shot from deep.
He may have gone under the radar when he joined the club in January but now, he’s one of the best in the league.
