The move hasn’t particularly gone as expected, has it Aston Villa fans? In late 2018, it was announced that Villa had reached a deal with Gent to sign Lovre Kalinic and he would join the club on January 1. Orjan Nyland had impressed at times but he was also more than prone to a mistake, so it was evident that a goalkeeper of Kalinic’s calibre was necessary.
The 29-year-old arrived with a respectable reputation having been given the role of Croatia’s number one between the sticks following the 2018 World Cup. It was more than understandable that given the aforementioned context and his prestige that lots of the Villa faithful were excited by the move.

Some other fans also felt Kalinic’s arrival would be the end of Nyland’s spell as number one, which it proved to be.
Sucks to be, Nyland.

Despite the excitement, Kalinic’s deal has not exactly played out as many thought it would. He had conceded eight times in his first three games and although he was not performing too badly for Villa, after suffering a concussion in the defeat to West Brom in mid-February and getting an injury around a month later, he lost his place between the sticks to Jed Steer.
It was soon after Steer was reinstated that Villa went on their 10-game winning streak so it is no surprise that Kalinic could not force his way back into the side. Either way, it will be interesting to see what happens in regards to his future given the ‘keeper situation and Villa’s promotion back to the Premier League.
Surely they can’t drop Steer, can they?
