Transfer Flashback: Mick Harford appointed interim Luton boss in 2019

12 February 2019 might have been a special day for a number of reasons at Luton Town, with Mick Harford celebrating his 60th birthday, however, it was also the day that he took over the managerial role at Kenilworth Road on another interim basis.

With Nathan Jones having left for Stoke City, the club legend was placed in temporary charge in January and had been named as their manager for the remainder of the campaign, which left a number of fans buzzing with the news on social media.

As has become the norm in the modern era, Twitter has become a go-to platform for supporters to share their thoughts about the ongoings at their football club and Luton fans were no different in sharing their reactions to the news. Here are just some of them…

And, it appears those fans were right about Harford being named in charge as the Hatters are within touching distance of a place in the Championship.

With how things had previously gone when he had taken charge before, although the 30-point deduction they received for their insolvency issues back in 2008 was hardly his fault, there may have been questions about whether he would be able to continue the great work that had been set in place.

It would have been easy to see things fall by the wayside following Jones’ departure, however, the footballing veteran certainly did not allow for that to happen as they went on a remarkable 28-game unbeaten run in League One.

Indeed, the defeat to Charlton Athletic was quickly put out of their system as they returned to victorious ways with an away win against Accrington Stanley, although they were held to AFC Wimbledon in midweek.

With just two games of the season left to play, Luton have a real opportunity of claiming the title and winning promotion to the Championship as champions, which will just earn Harford even more love and affection from those at the Bedfordshire-based outfit.

Calls will likely be made for him to take the job on a permanent basis, however, he might just be happy to remain in his role as the chief of recruitment, a position he appears to have been extremely successful in.
