Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg joined Bayern in July 2012, and then went on to make his professional debut on the 13th of April 2013 in the Bundesliga. However, he wasn’t able to secure regular minutes during his time at Bayern, which led to him joining Augsburg and FC Schalke on loan towards the end of his time in Germany.
On the 11th of July 2016, Southampton signed the midfielder from European giants Bayern Munich.
The 23-year-old made his debut in the Premier League on the 13th of August as the season began with a 1–1 home draw with Watford. He went on to make 35 appearances during his first season at St Mary’s, securing one assist, but he was nothing more than an average squad member at that stage.
Indeed, the Danish international really started to come on leaps and bounds during his second season at the club, as he established himself as a first-team regular, as well as scoring his first goal against Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup during the Saints’ rise to the semi-final, before being knocked out by Chelsea.
Hojbjerg has gone up another couple of gears in the current campaign at St Mary’s having developed into one of the most impressive midfielders in the Premier League, with three goals and two assists to his name. And, he has even managed to secure the captain’s armband, which just goes to show how far he’s come.
Therefore, it comes as no surprise that supporters were so excited to see him join the club as he’s proved to be one of their best signings in recent years, with goals and assists now filtering into his game. And, his leadership qualities and overall performances on the field have played a vital part in the Saints’ recent rise under Ralph Hasenhuttl.Like what the TT have on offer?
