On 14 July 2017, Portsmouth made one of their most crucial signings in an attempt to get out of League One at the first attempt and try and make a return to the Championship.
Although they failed to do that last season, they are well within a chance of achieving that aim this time around and Brett Pitman has continued to deliver with the goods when required.
The striker was brought to Fratton Park from Ipswich Town for an undisclosed fee and arrived with a reputation of being able to find the back of the net on a regular basis.
With that in mind, it is hardly surprising to see Portsmouth fans buzzing on social media to the Tweet the club posted confirming the deal. Here are just some of their reactions…

As mentioned, Pitman had a knack of being able to find the back of the net on a consistent basis and started life well back on the south coast, having played a lot of his football for Bournemouth prior to spells at Bristol City and Ipswich Town.
In his first campaign back in League One, he recorded 24 goals in his 38 appearances as Pompey just missed out on a play-off spot by six-points.
Things have been a little more difficult for the forward this season, however, he has still managed to come up with a number of important goals (11 in 29 matches), whilst his contributions and influence on the pitch has not gone unnoticed as he has since become a talisman for the club.
Kenny Jackett left him out of the side for a lot of the first half of the season, however, he has since found a place for him in his team as a number 10, a role that Pitman appears to have started to thrive in for the promotion contenders.
The experienced attacker has shown that he can provide Portsmouth with an additional dimension and his versatility has allowed the forward to play in different supporting roles when other key men have been unavailable for matches.
Pitman has the ability to be a match-winner, something he has proven time and time again this season, and if he can do that in their final three games of the League One campaign, fans will surely be over-the-moon with his acquisition two years on.
