Transfer flashback: Southampton sell Dusan Tadic

On June 27th 2018, Southampton announced that Dusan Tadic had agreed a move to Ajax.

Some supporters were incredibly saddened after hearing news that Tadic would be leaving the club, as they took to Twitter to express their disappointment over the announcement.

Dusan Tadic joined from FC Twente for £10.9 million in the summer of 2014, and he got off to a lightening quick starts as he produced an assist against Liverpool on his competitive debut. The Croatian then went on to make a name for himself against Sunderland in what was arguably one of his best ever performances at Southampton, as he managed to score one goal and provided four assists at St Mary’s.

He enjoyed an even better season in the 2015-16 campaign, scoring nine goals and assisting 14, as he helped the Saints get the better of Manchester City and Spurs by providing three and two assists respectively.

The Serbia international always had a knack for producing a healthy number of goals and assists during his time at the club, but his effort levels were questioned at times as he often found himself being labelled as lazy.

Indeed, the 30-year-old was the creative player that fans had been calling out for, with his pace, dribbling and finishing ability working wonders during his time at St Mary’s. He scored 24 goals and provided 35 assists in 162 appearances for the club, which helped him establish himself as a fan favourite.

Southampton fans, surely you must having him in your side? Especially as he’s enjoying arguably the best season of his career at Ajax right now…
