On 30th August 2013, Tottenham Hotspur may have announced one of their most disappointing signings in recent memory.
Vlad Chiriches was brought to the club for a fee thought to have been worth around £8.5million to try and help bolster Andre Villas-Boas’ defence and help turn things around for Spurs in their pursuit to climb up the Premier League table.
As has become the norm in the modern era, fans flocked to Twitter back in 2013 to share their immediate reactions to the Romania international centre-back’s arrival, with many appearing to be rather happy with the news.
Here are just some of their reactions…
@SpursOfficial Had him in my Spurs career mode already for ages. BEAST.

However, Chiriches failed to make a real impact during his time and would have left many disappointed with what he brought to the side.
Part of Franco Baldini’s ‘Magnificent Seven’, the Romanian was just another huge flop that failed to live up to any expectation and see his time in north London cut short.
Despite having started well, the centre-back, who can also operate as a right-back and as a defensive midfielder, made just 25 Premier League appearances during his two-year stay at White Hart Lane before he was sold to Napoli.
As the campaign went by, the defender did not appear comfortable with life in English football as he was found out all too often and cut a rather panicky figure in the backline, leaving a number of Spurs fans concerned.
The likes of Toby Alderweireld and Kevin Wimmer arrived (although the latter of the duo was hardly any better), which meant Chiriches would find himself forced further down the pecking order at the club.
If the reactions to the club’s official Tweet regarding his sale back in 2015 are anything to go by, nobody was too disappointed to see him leave.
Tottenham fans, did you share the same initial reaction to his arrival? How disappointed were you with how Chiriches turned out? Let us know your thoughts by joining in with the discussion below.
