Although many would not have known what quite to expect in terms of how West Ham United at the start of the season, many would not be able to argue about the progress they have shown over the course of this season under Manuel Pellegrini.
There can be no doubt that instant success was always going to be unlikely, however, a year that should fall under the category of being ‘transitional’ may not have been able to go a lot better than it has so far.
And, the date of 15 July 2018 could be one associated with the change, as that is when the club splashed out and managed to bring Felipe Anderson to the London Stadium in a record-breaking deal for the Hammers worth around £36million and could potentially rise to £41m if add ons are met (BBC Sport).
Fans were understandably delighted with the coup as many saw it as an intention of their ambition that summer, following the arrivals of Issa Diop and Pellegrini to name but a few. Here were just some of their reactions on Twitter following the confirmation…
What a transfer window we’re having, hurry up & get this season started! #COYI

And, it would be fair to say that fans would have not been disappointed with what the former Lazio man has brought to the club since arriving.
The Brazilian, who has since earned his place back in the National Team with his performances for the Hammers, has become a key and influential figure in the squad and has managed to show exactly why the David Gold and David Sullivan forked out a huge fee on him.
The 25-year-old has eight goals and four assists to his name so far in his 31 Premier League appearances and is a real threat going forward for Pellegrini’s side, with some of those goals proving to be crucial in their efforts to build on their top-flight standing.
Arguably, he has been one of the standout buys of the summer despite having what many would have believed was a really slow start to life at the London Stadium – taking a month or so to find his feet.
However, he does not appear to have looked back on those and has been a constant threat to defences up and down the country on the left-hand side, whilst also having the ability to be deadly from free-kicks as well.
His goalscoring ability has been welcomed at West Ham, however, the vision he has for a key pass is also something that will have delighted fans as he continues to make a number of chances for the forward line to try and feed on and makes a number of attacking dribbles.
In what has been an outstanding first season in the Premier League, Anderson should only go on to improve and fans at the London Stadium will only be lauding his future performances even further.
West Ham fans, did you expect Anderson to hit the ground running as he has? Or do you believe he was always destined to make an impact from the start? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
