Transfer Flashbacks: Dele Alli

Transfer Flashbacks: Dele Alli

Late on in the winter transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur confirmed the signing of MK Dons midfielder, Dele Alli for £5 million.

The now England regular has become one of the best young prospects in European football since he joined Spurs, and has established himself as a regular in the side.

Alli has played a key part in a Tottenham side that has become a side that at its best, can challenge some of the best teams in Europe.

Despite being 22, the midfielder has certainly proved to be a great piece of business from Spurs and it seems that the many Tottenham fans that praised his arrival on Twitter were right…

After joining Spurs the winter window, Alli was sent back on loan to MK Dons and finished his superb season which saw him score 16 goals to go with nine assists in the league.

Despite not being tested at the top level, the English midfielder made an instant impact for Spurs and scored 10 goals in 33 games for Tottenham. Playing in a young side with Harry Kane as the focal point, Alli was integral in Spurs finishing third under Mauricio Pochettino.

After such a superb first season at the club, expectations were high for Alli but once again the midfielder proved that he was ideally suited to play at the top level and scored 18 goals in 37 games to win his second successive ‘Young Player of the Year’ award. Although Spurs missed out on the title, the club had now established itself as once again, a legitimate top four contender.

Alli once again had a superb season last year for the Lily Whites, but this year, the Englishman has struggled to match the superb form he’s shown over his last three seasons for Tottenham.

After a tough World Cup campaign, Alli has struggled to get into the squad because of injury and so far has only managed to play five games in the league. At 22, however, the England international has already put together an incredible body of work for the club.

Going into the new stadium and a new era at Spurs, Alli is going to be essential in keeping the club at the top of the table and potentially winning some silverware.

Signed for just £5 million in 2015, it seems that Spurs have pulled off one of the best signings in their recent history and certainly one that has improved them instantly.
