After losing Luis Suarez, Liverpool needed to sign a top-level striker in order to replace the superb forward and their hunt led them to signing former Man City man, Mario Balotelli, on 25th August 2014.
Signed from AC Milan, the £16 million deal was met with large-scale approval by the Liverpool faithful but after a less than impressive two-year spell with the club, it seems as though the Liverpool fans were wrong to praise the arrival of the forward.
@ramien44 saw it. Liverpool is going to be beastly this season.

After being spoilt by the superb Luis Suarez, it’s fair to say that Balotelli’s time on Merseyside didn’t quite match the Uruguayan’s. Deployed up front, Balotelli’s lack of pace, lack of effort and overall quality showed constantly and the striker had a fairly terrible season.
He only managed to score one goal in 16 appearances in the league and following the end of the season, the striker was sent on loan to AC Milan where he again played poorly.
During his second stint with Milan, he played 20 games and again only scored one goal. The Reds sold him to Nice at the end of the 2015/16 season where although he seems to have become a better player, doesn’t hide the fact of what was a terrible transfer by the Reds.
Even at Man City, Balotelli never became a consistent goalscorer and at his best, he was only a bit part player. He was never going to equal Suarez’s impact on the side and in truth, it was probably one of the decisions that resulted in Brendan Rodgers getting the sack.
The Italian has been and will always be a player that never lives up to his talent and it was a terrible mistake by Liverpool.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
