Norwich City may have endured a tough start to life in the Premier League, but there were positive signs from one player, who could provide Daniel Farke’s side with a beacon of hope for a seemingly difficult season ahead.
Indeed, while Teemu Pukki provided the Canaries with their opening goal of the campaign, coolly striking past substitute Adrian, and both Max Aarons and Jamal Lewis proved good defensive performers on the flanks, there was another to have impressed.
Pukki may have had more shots per game (via WhoScored) than any other Norwich City player, showing his worth in his lone striking role and the aforementioned defensive duo provided key attacking threats in the wide areas completing the joint-most dribbles in the opening Premier League game of the season, we’re choosing another.
Emiliano Buendia was one of the stars that managed to fly under the radar and provide a solid performance given the circumstances. The £7.2m-rated (Transfermarkt) man provided the assist for Pukki’s goal, playing a defence-splitting pass through the middle of the Liverpool defence.
Buendia provided a complete attacking performance that ensured Farke’s side looked threatening. The 22-year-old played the joint-most key passes, had the second-most shots in the game, as well as completing the second-most dribbles.
The Independent highlighted his influence in creating chances as they gave him a six out of 10. They said: “A technically competent creator on this evidence and you wonder if he may be given a slightly freer role in less challenging/one-sided contests.” (Source: The Independent)
On this showing, Buendia didn’t seem to look out of place in the Premier League, however, consistency will be key if he is to help Norwich City stay in English football’s top-flight.
