What does the future hold: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at Liverpool

It’s been a long time coming, but it finally looks like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is returning to first-team action.

After close to a year out of the game with a knee injury, the Liverpool midfielder is set to return to Jurgen Klopp’s side for the final few games of the Premier League season as the Reds aim for their first league title since 1991.

Although Chamberlain has not been able to feature in any part of Liverpool’s incredible season, there’s no doubt that when the England international is back to the full fitness the former Arsenal midfielder will be back amongst the starting XI too much of the joy of Reds supporters.

Despite being out for 12 months and missing a vital year in his development as a player, Chamberlain’s future remains becoming an important player for Liverpool for years to come.

The 25-year-old midfielder is one of the most talented players in the current England pool and a star who can only grow and develop more in his years at Liverpool and under Jurgen Klopp, but whether or not the current Reds midfield allows Chamberlain room to play is another question.

Klopp seems to have the Liverpool midfield down to a tee, with Fabinho, Naby Keita and Jordan Henderson looking like the players the German wants to use to fill out the three positions in the middle of the park, and it will be a big risk to disrupt this balance by adding Chamberlain.

However, it is likely the club captain will be dropped for the addition of Chamberlain in the future given to what the English international can offer over Henderson in terms of attacking quality.

It’s been a crime that Chamberlain has missed one of Liverpool’s best seasons in the Premier League era, but when he returns to the squad, the team will be better than ever with a player who can man the midfield for years to come.
