The January transfer window could prove to be a crucial period for Liverpool as they’ll either make it through without any key injuries or could possibly lose one of their devastating front three.
The Reds have a superb team but have recently lost Joe Gomez and could be without Trent Alexander-Arnold and Nathaniel Clyne for their game against Man U.
It might not be essential to bring in any new marquee signings but Jurgen Klopp may need to sign some solid squad players in order to keep the squad’s depth and prepare them for the critical second-half of the season. With Klopp deploying a fairly demanding style of play, the injuries may begin to pile up at Merseyside.
Today, Klopp admitted that he couldn’t rule out buying in January but also that he might recall, current loanee Harry Wilson if they are short on the wing. The winger is currently on loan with Derby and has been superb for Frank Lampard’s side.
Easily the best of the current crop of loan players, Wilson has seven goals in the Championship this season in 15 games. The 21-year-old has already become a freekick specialist while also showing that he’s equally adept at smashing in goals from outside the box, much like Steven Gerrard. He may not be anywhere close to Gerrard’s level at the same age but this season he has established himself as one of the best young players in the country.
Internationally he’s starting to become an important player in Ryan Giggs’ side and scored their winning goal against Ireland in the UEFA Nations League. He may not have express pace but he’s talented with the ball at his feet and could well have a long-term future at the club.
As it stands, if Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane get injured, Wilson could well return and could be a valuable player off the bench although it would take him time to adjust to the pace of the league. Staying at Derby is the best scenario for Wilson and should be looking to become a first-team player for Klopp next season.
He’s ready and needs to be used by Klopp next season. If he isn’t, he may need to look elsewhere to further his career.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
