Despite Leyton Orient competing against AFC Telford for a place in the FA Trophy, Justin Edinburgh’s side remain top of the National League and with games in hand over rivals Solihull Moors and Wrexham AFC, appear to be in a really good position to win promotion back to the Football League.
The O’s are certainly in a good place following a number of years of disarray off the field, which led to their demise and subsequent relegation to the fifth tier of English football. The London outfit have certainly started to make amends on the pitch with their performances and look destined to return to League Two, although it remains to be seen if they manage to achieve that feat.
However, with how well their players have been playing, it would not be too surprising to see some of their younger talents be potentially picked up in the summer, regardless of whether Leyton Orient make a return to the Football League this season or not.
Josh Koroma and Macauley Bonne have both been winning plaudits for their performances with the Brisbane Road outfit this season and have played instrumental roles in helping Edinburgh’s side be where they are within the league and the FA Trophy tournament.
Koroma has nine goals to his name in the league so far this season with seven assists in his 30 appearances, and still only 20-years-old, it is likely that clubs will come in for the youth graduate in the near future and look to pinch him as he continually improves as each year goes by.
Aston Villa and Huddersfield Town were understood to be keen on the starlet, with January moves being touted for the centre-forward and it would not be a surprise to see clubs look at him again in the summer.
Bonne has also been thriving for Edinburgh’s side this season and has been one of the standout players in the National League with his contributions for the divisional leaders. The forward, who has been in a barren run of form as of late, managed to return to his best at the weekend when he netted the only goal of the game against Telford.
The 23-year-old is currently third in the standings for top goalscorer with 20 goals and has also seen himself be linked with moves further up the football pyramid with the likes of Leeds United and Norwich City all said to have been keen on the Zimbabwe international ahead of the previous winter transfer window.
It is clear to see that both players have become extremely key figures at Brisbane Road for Leyton Orient in their efforts to win promotion back to the Football League after a two-year hiatus, however, a possible return may not be enough for Edinburgh to be able to keep the duo at the club beyond the upcoming summer transfer window.
Leyton Orient fans, do you think Bonne and Koroma are destined for bigger things? Or do you believe the club can keep ahold of them beyond the summer? Join in the discussion with us below by sharing your thoughts.
