What does the future hold for Adama Diakhaby at Huddersfield Town?

It hasn’t worked out as many Huddersfield Town fans would have liked, has it? When the Terriers signed the former French under-21 international Adama Diakhaby (rated at £7.2m by Transfermarkt) on an undisclosed fee, lots of people had high hopes and rightfully so given his profile, but the deal is yet to work out.

Diakhaby looked a solid signing to add some youthful attacking productivity to David Wagner’s side at the start of the season, but he has not done enough to stake a claim for a regular spot when provided the opportunities.

The 22-year-old has featured 12 times over the course of the season, with seven of them appearances in the starting side. In that time though, as well as his displays proving rather ineffective on the whole, he is yet to produce a goal or an assist.

Having not featured in a matchday squad under Jan Siewert since February, that poses the question as to what is next for Diakhaby?

Well, it seems incredibly unlikely that he will get another chance under Siewert, given that he will work with him in training frequently and clearly hasn’t seen enough from him to trust him lately.

Considering that, he could move on permanently after just one season in West Yorkshire. But the more likely option is that he goes out on loan where he has a chance to develop and produce impressive displays of the sort that caught Town’s eye in the first place.

If he can replicate some form reminiscent of his time in France, then Town may be able to move the player on in a future transfer window for a more significant fee in comparison to what he would be worth now, allowing them to recoup a section of the fee paid for his services.
